Common questions

GIS & parcels — answered.

The questions we hear most when towns are evaluating this module. Anything specific to your charter, your state, or your existing vendor — we'll answer on the discovery call.

01 Can we use existing parcel data from our county GIS office? +
Yes. County shapefile imports refresh on the schedule you configure (typically nightly). We support standard ESRI shapefile, GeoJSON, and most county exports.
02 Do residents see parcel data on the public site? +
A read-only public layer shows zoning, FEMA flood zones, and (optionally) other layers you choose. Sensitive layers — water valve locations, emergency-vehicle routes — stay staff-only.
03 Can we add custom layers — a snow-route map, a bike-lane plan? +
Yes. Custom layers are part of the standard module — upload the shapefile or draw it in-product, set permissions, and decide whether residents can see it.
04 Does this replace ESRI ArcGIS? +
For most small-town use cases, yes. We don't claim to replace ArcGIS for towns doing complex spatial analysis or custom GIS development. If you have a GIS analyst running custom workflows there, we coexist — exporting and importing data both ways.
